The new trend emerges from American animal shelters. There is the possibility of giving classes with a cat for each student.
Cat cafes, where you can have tea in the company of felines, became fashionable in Asia in the late 1990s and soon began to spread around the world.
The same is happening with ‘cat yoga’, which has become popular in the United States since last year. Animal shelters saw the potential of bringing their felines together with ‘yogis’ for something they have in common: tranquility. This boy practicing with his cat is a clear example of the complicity that is created between them:
Cats are known for their tranquility and their stretches could be assimilated to any asana (the basic postures of yoga), which is perfect for practicing this discipline.
The dynamics of the classes is quite simple: while people perform their postures, these cats are released around the room and they walk, they approach whoever they want, they lie down on the mats or even climb on top of the students. Some amateurs claim that their “trusty cats” mimic the yoga poses they perform throughout the session.
In addition, this new discipline has beneficial objectives, as most yoga organizations ask for cats awaiting adoption. Students can choose, if they are fond of one, to welcome them and take them home.
