Origin and History
The LaPerm breed emerged in the early 1980s on a cherry farm in Oregon, USA, from a spontaneous genetic mutation in a litter of kittens. The first of its kind, a kitten born completely bald, surprised its owners. This kitten eventually grew soft, curly hair, unlike any other cat on the farm. This unique coat became the defining characteristic of the LaPerm breed. The breed has been developed through careful breeding practices to promote its distinctive curly coat while maintaining genetic diversity.
Physical Characteristics
LaPerms are medium-sized cats characterized by their unique curly coats, which can range from tight ringlets to long corkscrew curls.
