Singapura Cat Breed

Origin and History

The Singapura’s roots trace back to Singapore, where they were discovered roaming the streets and along the riverbanks. The breed’s name itself means “Singapore” in Malay. In the 1970s, Hal and Tommy Meadow, American expatriates, recognized the uniqueness of these small cats and began a breeding program to preserve and promote the breed. The Singapura was officially recognized by major cat associations in the 1980s, solidifying its status as a distinct breed.

Physical Characteristics

Singapuras are small, weighing between 4 to 8 pounds, but don’t let their size fool you; they are muscular and surprisingly heavy when picked up. Their coat is short, fine, and comes in a unique color: a warm, ivory beige with sepia brown ticking, known as “ticked tabby.” One of their most striking features is their large, almond-shaped eyes, which can be yellow, green, or hazel, set in a small, slightly rounded head, giving them an eternally youthful appearance.

Personality and Temperament

Despite their small stature, Singapuras have a big personality.
